Mr Chris Cheng 

Chris Cheng is a Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor who underwent two stem cell transplants during his four-year cancer journey. This lived experience profoundly shaped his perspective on healthcare and inspired his commitment to patient advocacy. He went on to co-found the Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness (SCAN) Kuching, where he now serves as President, leading efforts to raise awareness, share survivor stories, and build collaborations among cancer-related organisations in Sarawak.

Beyond SCAN, Chris contributes nationally as a founding member of Suara Kita, a Malaysian alliance of patient organisations, and as Health Thematic Group Leader for the Sarawak CSO-SDG Alliance. He was also a contributing author of the Making Healthcare Reform Work for Sarawak Report, which highlights pathways to improve access and equity in healthcare.

Chris has been invited to share his advocacy journey and insights on major platforms such as the World Cancer Congress, the Sarawak Health Summit, and other regional conferences, where he underscores the importance of lived experience in shaping healthcare policy and practice. He also served on the organising committee for the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Conference 2025.

His work is grounded in a belief that healthcare systems must prioritise meaningful engagement with patients and uphold the highest standards of patient safety. By turning his own cancer journey into a platform for change, Chris continues to champion reforms that place patients at the centre of care, ensuring their voices are heard and their wellbeing safeguarded.
